Some words from James Peden: "After 14 years of making (4 million) Trinity Sun Bars (a vegan fruit and nut bar), I realized no products existed for raising vegan cats and dogs. That began a year long research project (contacting many scientists) and formulating workable recipes that met nutrient requirements (first for cats and then for dogs)."

Location: Boise, Idaho
Owner: Jed Gillen, vegan for ten years
Vegan owned and operated since 1999.
Jed Gillen authored a book on feeding pets vegan, entitled: Obligate Carnivore. "In the mid-1990's, I adopted a cat and didn't want to have to contribute to animal slaughter to feed her. After some searching, I discovered that there were vegan alternatives that I could use, but that they weren't widely known or available."
The company was founded to give greater access to people looking to avoid contributing to cruelty in all areas of their lives, as well as to dispel some of the misconceptions surrounding the issue of feeding vegan food to cats and dogs.

Veganpet dry cat food that is complete and balanced suitable for kittens up to old active cats.
Background: "My great love and respect for animals made me wake up and open my eyes as to how inhumane (it is) even eating 'a little white flesh'. I became a vegetarian and then looked around to see if I could make my pets vegetarian."
"My studies (including an independent University study) came back with excellent results. After two years I made my first VEGAN dog and cat food."
Boston Baked Bonz
"We bake and sell only 100% vegan and
100% organic baked treats for doggies."
Owner & Staff: "We are a vegan owned and operated company. It's just us -- so we're all vegan. We're vegan because the food is awesome and we love and respect all animals and the planet. Eating meat and dairy just isn't necessary and we don't want to support companies that exploit animals."
In business since: Spring of 2007
Sells: Several gift boxes to celebrate important events in the lives of doggies: Birthday, Welcome New Puppy, Welcome Adopted Dog, Get Well Soon, Valentines, Christmas, etc.
They also carry handmade collars and 100% organic shirts for humans that are sweatshop labor-free and made in the USA.
"We sell cookie subscriptions so that our furry friends can get freshly baked goodies delivered every month."
"We have a Canine Taste Tester Squadron that consists of a dedicated group of excellent doggies who get free samples from our TOP SECRET test kitchen. In the course of our daily routine, as we cook for our own dogs, we hit upon a recipe that they find irresistible (and sometimes difficult for us to resist as well). We are eager to share these new creations and see if they are indeed as delectable as our resident experts think. It is a chance for us to engage our canine friendly community to get feedback. After a thorough sampling, our Squadron members tell us what they think of the latest baked goodies coming out of our kitchen. We make sure all of our baked goodies have wide appeal for dogs everywhere!"
Baked goodies include: Apple Muffins, Gingerbread Snaps, Pea Pods, Peanut Butter Crunchies, Pumpkin Pie Muffins, Quinoa Crunchies, Wheat Free Cranberry Clove Muffins, Wheat-Free Peanut Butter Crunchies, WILD Blueberry Muffins
Background: "Boston Baked Bonz is an old idea that finally sprung to life in the spring of 2007. We thought up the name of the company in the late 1980s, and ruminated time and again about the concept of the business.
"Then during the 1990s, our world was blessed when we became the proud parents of two of the best dogs that have ever existed: Sebastian and his beautiful sister Daphne. We spent joyous and countless hours cooking meals for them and making cookies for the (more-than-) occasional snack. We decorated their collars and incorporated these two beautiful spirits into the various craft and art projects that came along. Suffice it to say, we just generally integrated these dogs into every facet of our lives. We're not sure who loved it more -- but these dogs were so wonderful, we're certain we got the better end of the deal.
And along the way, we noticed many other people who look at their canine companions as being truly integrated and honored members of the family, too. We knew that a company dedicated to providing excellent gifts and snacks to dogs could be successful, especially with people who felt as honored to be canine guardians as we did (and still do with our new family members).
Then, in the spring of 2007, fed up with being a lawyer and the legal practice in general, John started looking for a fun and useful means of working with the dog community. We decided to get our rolling pins, craft supplies and recipe notes to make this 20-year-old idea a reality. Just as we had hoped, the response has been overwhelming: Boston Baked Bonz are the types of treats people give their dogs to say 'thank you for being part of my family'. Or friends give to one another to say, 'I understand the love you have for your dog because I feel that love too.' It is a wonderful thing, and we want to share it with the world."
Vegan Delights
Location: 316 N.H. St. #101, Aberdeen, WA. 98520
Owner: Sandra Maupin has been vegan for 17 years.
Vegan staff: 100%
In business since: July 2004
Sells: All handmade cookies in the following flavors: chocolate chip, lemon, chocolate treasures, chocolate mint and oatmeal. Also vegan dog treats
Background: Sandra Maupin, the owner, became vegan to improve her health. "It can be challenging to find good vegan products so for years my mother and I experimented with vegan cookies. I also tested them on my non-vegan friends. The goal was for vegans not to be deprived and have cookies good enough to share with my friends. Thus far, I have not found anyone who does not love our cookies. A friend wanted treats for their dog. It did not take long to create a healthy dog treat."
Vegan Delights is currently experimenting on dog treats with no corn because some dogs are allergic to corn products.
