Last week I ordered the Classic Box from Healthy Surprise.
It arrived on time and I must say, I was quite excited to open the box.
This Healthy Surprise review will cover what I got in the box, my personal thoughts, and a quick overview of some other options to help you decide if it’s right for you.
At the moment this is one of my top picks, however there are a few other subscription boxes you might want to consider as well.
What’s in the box?
Here is a full list of the snacks I received in my Classic Box:
- 2 packs of Oloves (basil & garlic, and chili & oregano)
- Tropical Blend Crunch Dried Fruit by Sensible Foods
- Oven Roasted Almonds by Trophy Farms
- Pistachios by Wonderful
- Organic Turkish Mini Apricots by Fruit Bliss
- Maple Almond Butter by Justin's
- Raisins by Made in Nature
- Hummus Dip by Wild Garden
- 2 That's It bars (apple & strawberry and apple & banana)
- Kettle Chips by Good Health (olive oil)
- Seaweed Rice Chips by Gimme Chips
- Bean and Rice Chips by Beanfields
- Mini Brownies Coco-Roons by My Coco Roons
There are 15 snacks advertised in the Classic Box, and I'm happy to say that I did receive 15 items.
The snacks are all full size, and they range from bars, sweets, fruits, nuts, chips, veggies and so on.
All the snacks in the Classic Box are dairy free, gluten free, GMO free, soy free, corn free and wheat free.
My personal thoughts
I like the concept of these subscription boxes, even if you're just buying them as a 1 time purchase. They make great gifts.
The idea is that each month you get 15 new snacks to enjoy, and perhaps find certain ones that you really like and eat on a regular basis. I personally love the Kettle Chips that I received and it's nice to know there is a healthier option out there when I cheat on my diet. I also loved the That's It fruit bars.
When you analyze the cost, and what you get, I think it's worth it. Firstly, the subscription concept is fun and convenient. Secondly, with the actual prices of each item, I think you're pretty close to breaking even.
The cost of the Classic Box as a gift is $49.99 (42.49 if you start a subscription), and the shipping cost is $7.99 in the US, and $14.99 in Canada. If you don't live in North America there are some better options here.
So in the United States you're looking at $42.49 + $7.99 = $50.48
If you divide that by 15 snacks, you're looking at an average price of $3.37.
Depending on where you shop, some of the items will be priced higher than that. Many of the items are more expensive in places like Starbucks, however I hope you never spend 3 dollars on a box of raisins!
When you analyze the price, I think it's still worth it. But you also need to factor in the fun and convenience. Every month you get a new box, with new healthy items. It's pretty cool.
Again, there's a cost to saving time on shopping and researching snacks.
Other subscription boxes offered by Healthy Surprise
As I mentioned above, I ordered the Classic Box, however Healthy Surprise offers a few other subscription box options.
Keep in mind, all boxes can be purchased as gifts, or through a subscription.
Subscriptions can be set for 3, 6 or 12 month options, and they can be changed or cancelled anytime. You will save 15% if you purchase a subscription rather than a one time gift purchase.
There are two other main subscription boxes: the Big Box, and the Paleo Box.
The Big Box is just a larger version of the Classic Box. It has 21 items instead of 15. In a subscription, these cost $63.74.
The Paleo Box is different in that it's not a pure vegan box. You will find some animal protein in each box, however the quality ingredients are still present. This box is still dairy, gluten, GMO, soy, corn and wheat free, however it will contain animal protein products. All animal products are from animals who are grass fed, and pasture raised. In a subscription, these cost $63.74.
Health Surprise offers other products on their website.
They offer individual products and some personal care products as well.
